Netflix has just added a plethora of wonderful Cartoon Network shows! Most of these seem to be from early 2000s, but there is some newer stuff here too. Definitely something for everyone!
Justice League (2 Seasons)
This show ran from 2001 until 2004 and is considered one of the greatest super hero cartoons in existence. Personally, I've always preferred Marvel cartoons, but this show really does shine. It's no Batman the Animated Series, but it sure is good. Netflix has both seasons for a total of 52 episodes. I know it is coincidence, but DC sure does like the number 52!
To me, this always seemed like a bit of a forced sequel to Justice League. I don't mean that in a negative way though. Justice League Unlimited picked up in 2004 where Justice League left off. It features a huge cast of Justice Leaguers, and is really worth watching, but watch Justice League first. Netflix has them both, no need to watch them out of order! The last episode aired in 2006.
Batman Beyond (3 Seasons)
From Paul Dini, Batman Beyond is a kind of continuation of Batman the Animated Series. You don't necessarily have to have seen Batman the Animated Series to understand this, it's kind of it's own thing. The story follows Bruce Wayne as a senior citizen, still trying to fight crime, but beginning to realize he is getting too old. A kid named Terry proves himself and Bruce eventually begins training him as a new Batman. It's not as good as Batman, but it's certainly good.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2 Seasons)
This show is essentially DC Team Up. Each episode features Batman teaming up with somebody in the universe to stop somebody else. The show can be hit and miss, but overall I would give in a whopping "okay". Maybe Batman the Animated Series has raised my expectations so high I'll never enjoy another Batman cartoon.
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (2 Seasons)
Now this hold a special place in my heart. It ran from 2003 to 2007 and spawn from a lesser known show named Grim & Evil. By the time I got Cartoon Network, it "wasn't cool" to like cartoons, but damn was this still funny. The story is about two kids that have Grim (Death himself) enslaved from beating him (cheating) at a game of limbo. The story follows Billy, a simple-minded child, and Mandy, a morbid young girl, on their adventures with Grim. It's zany, and not for everyone, but it really is enjoyable.
Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy (2 Seasons)
Running from 1999 to 2009, Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy remains the longest running Cartoon Network series. The series follows three young boys, with very similar names, as they essentially run around the neighborhood trying to con other children. It's fun, I liked it as a kid and I still find it funny after all these years. Maybe I'm just immature.
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (1 Season)
Starting as a television movie, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends run from 2004 to 2009. Honestly, I haven't seen an episode. I've heard great things, but I'm not help here.
Ben 10 (1 Season)
I have never seen a single episode of this, and besides seeing the toys, this is really the first time I've thought about it even though it aired from 2005 to 2008. From my understanding, this kid was chosen by something, so he possesses the power of ten different alien "gods". He can apparently switch to be these aliens at will, and thus have their powers. It looks intriguing enough, somebody correct me if I'm way off on this please.
Ben 10: Alien Force (1 Season)
From the looks of it, this show is the same as Ben 10, but now he has friends who help him! The show had 46 episodes in it's run from 2008 to 2010. My only problem here is, if this is a continuation of Ben 10, and not all Ben 10 episodes are on Netflix, do I just wait?...
Ben 10: Ultimate Alien (1 Season)
I admit, I've never seen this show either. It ran from 2010 to 2012. Maybe Ben 10 with more friends and more powerful alien powers? That's probably it right? Again, if the first two series before this don't have all their episodes, will this make sense?
Samurai Jack (Season 1)
Airing from 2001 to 2004, Samurai Jack is the highest critically acclaimed show from Cartoon Network. Jack's family is destroyed by a demon, years later he fights the demon and wins, but just then the demon sends him to the future where he rules it! I don't want to give much away, this show is such a treat. Just watch it.
Chowder (1 Season)
Having never seen an episode, or even heard of this until now, I don't really know what to say. It ran from 2007 until 2010 and is apparently from someone who worked on Spongebob. Probably not bad, but judging from the Google Image search results, I might stay away personally.
Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated (1 Season)
I loved older Scooby Doo shows, and even a few of the newer movies, but I haven't seen any of these. It started in 2010, and is the first show on my list to still be airing! It looks similar in style to older stuff, just a little newer. Not bad. It apparently also has Matthew Lillard as the voice of Shaggy, so that's neat.
Regular Show (1 Season)
This show... It's anything but regular. It started airing in 2010, and is still going strong. It's about a bird and a raccoon that work at a park, keeping to grounds. They avoid work, get in trouble, have dangerous, random as can be adventures. It's worth checking out a few episodes.
Generator Rex (1 Season)
I don't know if I'm getting too old for this, or what, but I can't do this show. It ran from 2010 to 2013, and is about a boy who can grow machines out of his body. I'm probably just a bad critic, but I just don't enjoy it. Seems too "punkish" for me.
Dexter's Laboratory (1 Season)
Premiering in 1996, the series wrapped up its 78th episode in 2003. This is a classic. It is about an child genius who deals with his sister ruining his experiments and his arch-rival, Mandark! The series has little recurring segments, one of the being the Justice Friends! It was a wonderful Avengers parody.
Adventure Time (1 Season)
Adventure Time started in 2010 and has gained a massive adult following since. It's been nominated for Emmy Awards, Annie Awards, and won a Gold Reel Award. Just watch it, you won't regret it I promise! You will be upset when you finish season 1 and don't have more though!
Courage the Cowardly Dog (1 Season)
Courage is a dog who is afraid of everything, and on a daily basis he runs into aliens, demons, monsters, zombies, you name it. His life kind of sucks. Aired from 1999 to 2002. The show follows Courage and his owners on their farm house in Kansas. Someone, creatures of the night always seem to show up, and Courage has to face his fears and drive them off!
Powerpuff Girls (3 Seasons)
This show should speak for itself, like most on this list, but Powerpuff Girls ran from 1998 to 2005, and features three superhero girls saving the world. These girls save the world while dealing with their own girl problems. Episodes are filled with pop culture references that people under the age of 15 aren't going to understand. Makes watching it fun.
Johnny Bravo
Johnny Bravo ran from 1997 to 2004, and to my knowledge still has a decent fan base. What makes the show so great is it running gags, the best example being Johnny always get beaten up when he asks a girl on a date. Sounds dumb, I know, but it really is funny and filled with pop culture references. Definitely worth checking out.
Nice post! I organized a justice league themed party for my son this year. Well, he just started watching some shows by Andy Yeatman on Netflix. I have feeling that next year his birthday party theme would be related to the legend quest, because he is loving that show a lot just the way he liked justice league.
